Never Cry Wolf

This movie, Never Cry Wolf, is a wonderful movie that shows the bond between man and animal. It starts with one ordinary scientist who is soon unexpectedly dropped off in the middle of Alaska with fears of being harmed by wolves and other scary creatures that lay there. He is supposed to find out if the wolves are killing all the caribou, but with a very intriguing adventure along the way.
I recommend this movie for all the viewers as a family movie to watch with some popcorn and enjoy watching wolves and other FASCINATING animals in action.

Fascinating Bird Events

The Great Horned Owl was close enough so our binoculars could see the FASCINATING bird. He stood next to a huge tree looking small, yet powerful with its sharp talons and his head, that swiveled around seeking out small rodents. Occasionally, he turned to look at us, but without a care in the world. He didn't seem the least bit nervous of all the people watching his every move. All of a sudden, his huge downy wings spread out and he lifted himself up in the air and flew off. I still remember the power and strength those wings carried through the night.
-Bluebirds are beautiful! Their blue backs and orange bellies are an amazing sight to see when they are in the air, flapping their wings and going to find food for the family. One amazing night we were peeking in the birdhouse and inside were three beautiful baby birds opening their mouths waiting to be fed. It was adorable and truly FASCINATING!!!!! First, they would open their mouths wide, expecting food to be dropped in, then they would put their heads back down on each other and sleep until they wanted food again! It was amazing!!
Birds truly are FASCINATING creatures and deserve to be respected. In the comments box, feel free to tell about some of your fascinating bird events. I mean, how many times will you be able to see baby birds learn to fly? I have, but have you? These stories deserve to be shared!

Zoo Trip

Zoo trips are always fun! So of course, this time was too! My cousin, sister, grandmother, and I all piled in the car and drove the long, but totally worth it ride to the zoo. When we got to the zoo, we headed straight to the animals! First, we saw the spider monkey along with a dark haired one that I'm not so sure of the name. They were gripping their big and long branches, swinging and swinging through the treetops. I loved going into the reptiles and amphibians exhibit and seeing all the FASCINATING creatures that I definitely wouldn't want to see anywhere else. I also like the place where they tell you about a specific animal and this time it was some type of turtle. I learned that one type sleeps 16 hours a day! We trudged along for quite a while, ate, and soon entered Bear Country, where we saw the sloth bear that was sitting happily and the polar bear that was sleeping and sleeping, not swimming in the water which was what we all wanted it to do. My sister desperately wanted to see the aardvarks so we walked over to the Small Mammal House. We saw the adorable aardvarks snoozing, while cuddled up close together. I learned that they are nocturnal so that was why they were sleeping. We ended our zoo day with a delicious, satisfying, soft serve ice cream each and headed home. What a day!

A Day and Night in Nature

At my grandparent's house, the tractor was slowly forcing itself up a small hill. Behind the tractor was a big wooden wagon, filled with kids and other family members all riding in the wagon. On this small journey we went across the road to a corn field. There was a beautiful view and you could see the twin towers!
That night we slept on the wagon with many matresses, pillows, and blankets. We looked up at the bright black sky that the moon lit up like a huge flashlight, we watched for shooting stars until we all fell asleep.
The next morning we hiked down in the woods where SO many trees fell from Hurricane Sandy, and got to hop over tree trunks and tree branches, also looking up to make sure know really loose and almost falling trees would fall while we were walking under it. It was so fun to navigate our way through the woods searching for the big black bear that my grandparents had seen about a month before our camp out.
Camping and hiking are so fun and I hope you try it and have a great nature experience.

Long Island Fun

This summer I went to Long Island for a nature related vacation and had a great time. We were visting our grandparents for the weekend. There house was right near the bay/sound so we went swimming, tubing, and kayaking. Sitting on the sand, after a long time of swimming, splashing and other water related activites, I searched the sky for the FASCINATING osprey to fly across the treetops. My grandmother got me this bird watching book where there are all these stickers with pictures of birds on them, so when you saw the bird you would take the sticker of put it on the page with its name on it then write when and where you saw it. Also, there was a spot to put some observations about the bird and what it was doing. One of my observations for the osprey was: This elegant bird was gliding and flapping its huge downy wings, propeling itself forward in the air. If any of you are interested in this book it is called: Beginning Birdwatcher's Book-by Sy Barlowe.
Birdwatching is enjoyable and a very fun hobby. I hope you all try it one time and enjoy those flying, amazing, and FASCINATING creatures.

Rhinoceroses

Rhinos are very interesting animals and would love to share some facts!  So sit back and relax!
Rhinos are herbivores, which means they don't eat meat they only eat plants. This includes in their diet, leaves, grasses, shrubs, shoots, buds, and fruit. They eat up to 50 kilograms a day! That's amazing! Humans eat only three meals a day,(with a few snacks in between) while they eat so much more!  Rhinos need to have salt in their diet and were once observed drinking saltwater! \
The White an Black rhinoceros lives in Africa. The White Rhino lives in Africa's savannas, woodlands, and grasslands. The Black Rhino lives in Africa's rain forests and scrublands. The Indian, Tavan, and Sumatran live in Asia.
Humans are rhinos biggest predators. They kill rhinos for their horns, and the horns are sold on the black market. The horns are used for traditional purposes and some people believe they can cure everything from fever to food poisoning. Some other predators are crocodiles, hyenas, and lions.
Rhinos have many ways to protect themselves from danger. They have very sharp horns that they can use to  scare off predators. These horns are made of keratin which is the same protein as hair and fingernails. They also have very thick skin. Unfortunately, their skin is not as thick as an armor plate because if they get scratched they could get scars.
Rhinos also have many adaptations that help them survive. They gallop like a horse which allows them to run up to 25 miles per hour, but for only a short period of time. This will help them get away from predators. They have big teeth that are meant for crushing up their food. Can you believe this? Rhinos have a great sense of smell and can smell a predator from more than eight football fields away! That's awesome! Another interesting fact: they have a great sense of hearing and can swivel their ears around to hear where a sound came from! They are also great swimmers!
Now you know that rhinos are more than just scary creatures, they are FASCINATING creatures! I hope you enjoyed the rhinos facts!

ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bats!

I have been pretty interested in bats since the time a bat got into my cousins house! It flew all around!

Bats are the only flying mammals. You may think flying squirrels fly, but they glide. The bats forelimbs form wings that are very different from birds. Bats have bad eyesight. When bats fly they use their big ears help them locate and avoid objects. Bats let out a sound that is way to high pitched for us to hear, and the sound is echoed back as a radar beam. The sound is picked up by their sensitive ears and the echo identifies the direction and distance of the objects, this helps them hunt for food. Some large bats eat fruit, and Vampire Bats of South and Central America drink blood.
Bats are very interesting and I hope you think so too! If you have any questions or suggestions write a comment and I will reply shortly.
