Sharks

Sharks have been around for about 400 million years! Before dinosaurs were here on the earth sharks lived in the ocean! A shark's jaws are different than other animals because its lower and upper jaws move. When a shark bites it bites with its lower jaw and than its upper jaw. When it eats it swings his head back and forth to tear a loose piece of meat. It swallows the food whole! Different types of sharks have different shaped teeth depending on the food they eat. A great white shark is a carnivore, like most sharks. Sharks may grow over 20,000 teeth in its lifetime! Sharks never run out of teeth! If he loses one another comes forward from the rows of backup teeth. Sharks usually eat by themselves, but sometimes if a shark is eating it may attract other sharks. They will swim up real quick and try to get a nibble of the food. Most sharks are carnivores. They eat fish, dolphins, seals, turtles, and even seagulls. Sometimes sharks will eat other sharks. The sharks that are carnivores have teeth made out of cartilage instead of bone because cartilage teeth are more flexible. Some sharks are quite harmless. Fun fact, the most harmless sharks are usually the largest!
Sharks predators are people! They eat sharks! Isn't that terrible!
Sharks are very fascinating!
Flamingos
Flamingos are famous for their bright pink feathers, stilt-like legs, and S-shaped neck. They’re also known for “running” on water, thanks to their webbed feet, to gain speed before lifting up into the sky. You’ll find flamingos throughout the world’s warmer regions, near shallow lakes and lagoons.Once airborne, flamingos fly with their long neck and legs outstretched. Flamingos fly in large flocks, sometimes with as many as hundreds of thousands of other flamingos. A flock of flamingos that large is quite a sight!

Whales

Whales are very good at catching food. When the blue whale is swimming and it starts to grow hungry, all it has to do is open gallons of water pour in, which strains out the tiny shrimp called krill. The whale does not drink salt water! The whale's gullet will not take anything bigger than a herring.
When whales swim it is like flying underwater! They have been around for some 25 million years! Surprisingly a whale is not a fish! The front flippers are forelegs, that have five fingers! The front flippers are only you used to keep the whale from tumbling over and to help steer.
The whale lives in cold water, but is very comfortable! I has an enormous layer of fat, like 12 inches thick!
It is called blubber. Blubber is like an elastic covering that helps the whales' body to be able to swim with the pressure of the water when it dives deep. A whale can dive 3,200 feet! The pressure of that dive would crush a blubber-less whale!
Whales are very interesting!

Musk Ox

Musk ox have a special way of defending themselves in the time of danger. When the wolf approaches the herd, the musk ox stoop down and rub their legs against their forelegs. A very strong odor is released into the air by scent glans just below each eye. Nobody knows why they send out that very strong odor it is a mystery! The musk ox then charges out to the predator, with a swipe of his horns. If a wolf, (there predator,)
picks up one of the ox they will kick until it is free on it's side and is ready to crush the wolf.
Musk ox get their food from small arctic plants.
Musk ox are very mysterious and fun to learn about!

Butterflies

Butterflies can only see red, green, and yellow. The top butterflies speed is as fast as 12 miles an hour. Some moths can fly as fast as 25 miles an hour! Monarch butterflies travel from the Great Lakes to the Gulf of Mexico, which is about 2,000 miles! They then return again in the spring. Butterflies can't fly if their body tempature is less than 86 degrees. Antarctica is the only continent that has no Lepidoparas. There are about 24,000 species of butterflies. There are about 140,000 moths in the world! Butterflies are very fascinating creatures!

Elephants

Elephants are very fascinating animals. They are the biggest land mammals still alive today. They live from 50 to 70 years, but the oldest living elephant lived to 82 years old. The two species of elephants living today are the Asian and African elephants. Elephants tusks are made of ivory and are very strong. Elephants live together in herds. It is good that these elephants in the zoo are with each other.~SW

Dogs

There is said to be 400 million dogs in the world! The pet dog has been one of the most popular human companions throughout history. Dogs do many jobs for people such as, leading the blind, hunting partners, police dogs, etc. Dogs could've appeared 15,000 years ago! There are so many breeds of dogs, hundreds! The most common breed is a Labrador. Labradors make wonderful family pets. Dogs have earned the nickname "man's best friend".  Dogs have better hearing than humans! They also have an amazing sense of smell! The usual life span for a dog is 10 to 14 years. Dogs are omivores, which means they eat plants and meat, plus grains. Dogs are fascinating creatures, I hope you love them as much as I do!
Dog Facts

1.    The oldest living dog lived until he was 29 years old, this was recorded in 1939.  His name was Bluey and he lived in Australia. If you are wondering about what type of breed he was, he was a Queensland 'heeler' – this breed was used for herding other animals.

2.    Dogs can smell things that humans cannot.  The nose has sensory cells; they work to allow a person or animal to smell things.  A dog has about 5 million more than you do!

3.    Dogs are omnivorous.  This means that they must eat both meat and plants (which would be vegetables and/or fruits).

4.    They cannot eat the cores of apples, but they can eat apple slices.

5.    They also should not eat raisins, grapes, and onions, chocolate or garlic because it can make them sick.

6.    They are the most popular pet to own.

7.     Out of all of the families living in the United States, 1 out of 3 has a puppy or dog.

8.    They know what time it is by relying on their “internal clock”. They know exactly when it is time to eat, when to expect their owner to come home, when to expect walks and more. They can become very restless if something does not happen when they expect for it to.

9.    “Sit” should be the very first command that an owner teaches to a dog.

10. You have some muscles to move your ears, but dogs have 2 times more than you do to move their ears!

11. Did you know that a dog uses his nose for smelling, but also uses it to cool himself off if he is hot?  A dog sweats their his nose!

12. They also sweat through their paws.

13. Have you ever seen a dog turn around 3 times before they go to sleep? This is because long ago, wild dogs (which were their ancestors) did this to cause grasses to be patted down to the ground before they slept on them.  Today’s dog still have this instinct inside of them.
14. Puppies do not know how to walk when they are born – They must learn just like toddlers do. This happens between the ages of 2 and 5 weeks old.

capybaras

Capybaras are the largest rodents in the world! Grown capybaras can grow as long as 130 cm, and can weigh over 100 pounds! The capybara is located in Panama, Columbia, Venezuela, the Guyanas, Peru, south through Brazil, Paraguay, northeast Argentina, and Urguay. Lots of places! Capybaras are herbivores, eating mostly grasses and other plants. They are a very social animal. Capybaras can breath underwater for five minutes! Capybaras are amazing animals, I hope you like learning about them!

An Idea

You people out there can send me an idea on the comment page and I will write about it! Please send me some!

Coatis

Coatis are mammals that live in South America, Central America, and south western North America. They are related to raccoons and the aardvark. Adult coatis can grow to 33 cm to 69 cm from head to tail. Their tail can be as long as their bodies. Coatis are about 30 cm tall to the shoulder, and weigh between 2 and 8 kg. Males can soon become almost twice as large as females and have very large teeth. Coatis are fascinating animals and I hope you do too!

The Komodo Dragon

The komodo dragon is also known as the komodo monitor. It lives in the Indonesion Islands of Komodo, Rinca, Flores, Gill Montang, and Padar. The komodo dragon is a carnivore and usually eats dead animals, but it prefers the animals rotted before eating, that is why they wait till their food is dead to eat. Its one of the most dangerous reptile in the world. Its bite is posionous, but not because of venom, because of the bacteria that lives in the reptile's body. The komodo dragon's tongue is usually purple. The bacteria in the komodo dragon is extremly dangerous that's what the komodo dragon gives when it bites. They can also run faster than you think they can. The komodo dragon is an amazing animal, I hope you enjoyed the research I gave you.
